Diane Relf- Architectural Artifacts to Art: this old house’s rust repurposed
Old buildings, whether being restored, repurposed, or removed, supply a wealth of metal material, which is the basis of my art. This show features ceiling tiles, cornice, roofing tin and roofing tiles, old store metal siding, signs and other salvage from the community of Shawsville, Virginia and the surrounding area. Some pieces are encouraged to continue to rust and then used for mono-printing on various fabrics which are used in creating wall hangings. Other pieces provide the structure for art works combined with photographs or alcohol ink paintings.
Opening reception with light refreshments from 5-7pm and visitors can "meet the artist".
Blacksburg Library
Meet the Artist: Ashley Marlowe, Presentation & Graphic Design Demonstration
Illustrations from Kaya and the Shadow Spirits, an original story written and illustrated by Ashley, will be on exhibit at the Blacksburg Library throughout October.
Ashley Marlowe, an award-winning graphic designer and illustrator, has won several nationally and locally recognized design awards, including a national level American Advertising Foundation ADDY award for her illustration work. Common influences in Marlowe’s work include books, imagination, and fantasy or science fiction, as well as a recurring astronomical theme. Marlowe is currently living and working in Roanoke, usually with a cup of tea in one hand and her wacom stylus in the other.
