Where the Red Fern Grows

BARTER PLAYERS PRESENT “WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS"

Don’t miss the adventures of Billy, Ol’ Dan and Lil’ Ann at the Lyric Theater. “Where the Red Fern Grows,” the beloved tale of the adventures of a young boy during the Great Depression, will be presented by The Barter Players on March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lyric Theater, 135 College Ave., Blacksburg.

Based on the family adventure novel by Wilson Rawls and adapted by Brian Guehrin, the play presents Billy, a ten-year-old Ozark Mountain boy, and his ‘coon dogs Ol’ Dan and Lil’ Ann. The play captures shared devotion and courage as Billy and his dogs face human cruelty, the predators of CycloneValley and the wiliest ‘coon on the mountain.

In the grand tradition of Barter Theatre, one of America’s oldest and most respected theatres, the Barter Players have achieved international acclaim, from Moscow to Miami, as one of the finest theatres for young people. “The Barter Players present high energy productions that bring to children and families the joy of live theatre,” said Katy Brown, Artistic Director of The Barter Players. “The troupe’s interpretation of classic literature captures the imagination and provokes thoughtful conversations for families and friends.”
