Understanding EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
We all want to live calmly in the present. Being able to enjoy life, family, friends, and experiences rates high for everyone. We all experience trauma in our lives. Some of us may experience more than others. EMDR is helpful for both single incident and complex trauma. It facilities the brains natural way of healing and allows us to get to the point where we can say “that happened in the past and I am safe in the present.” It also aids in producing positive cognition. EMDR also reduces anxiety, depression, phobias, and chronic pain.
Clients report resolution, peace, and catharsis with a variety of issues including bullying, death of a loved one, unresolved grief, car accidents, sexual assault, physical assault, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse.EMDR functions as a supportive counseling resource which reprocesses the past event so that we can live more fully in the present.
