Forgotten Math: A Seminar for Parents
It is common for parents of elementary school-aged children to feel secure helping their children with math assignments. However, as children enroll in more advanced math classes, parents often become less confident in their ability to help their children. To provide an extra boost of confidence, Sylvan Learning located in Christiansburg, VA is offering a free refresher workshop entitled, ?Forgotten Math for Parents,? for parents, grandparents and other members of the extended family wishing to restore their math skills in order to help their children learn. This interactive, 90-minute seminar is designed to help parents and family members gain confidence in assisting their children with their homework by reviewing many of the key math concepts that are introduced in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Parents move from station to station and are able to choose the math area they need to review in order to make homework time more manageable for the whole family. Whether it is learning how to use a graphing calculator or brushing up on exponents, linear equations or fractions, there will be a pre-algebra or algebra station to fit your family?s homework needs. Additionally, each participant will be given a listing of math resources to help your child conquer his or her math homework. The event will also feature light refreshments, a Q&A session and raffles with prizes.
