Doing Business with Virginia Tech: Navigating The Conflict of Interest Change
During the 2020 Legislative Session, your Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce advocated for the local business community and with the support of Senator John Edwards and Virginia Tech, helped change the Virginia Code and Conflict of Interest.
In essence, this legislative change makes it easier for small businesses to work with universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia, like Virginia Tech. According to Mary Helmick, Director of Procurement, Virginia Tech has created a petition waiver request from university employees with a personal connection with our small local businesses. Mary was involved with the requested change, and she rallied the support of purchasing agents around the Commonwealth. The Chamber staff was able to reach out to Chamber executives in the Commonwealth with state colleges or universities to garner support for the action
The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce will co-host a training session with Virginia Tech on November 17 at 8:00 a.m. via zoom.
*This program is free, however, space is limited and reservations are required. Once you register you will receive the zoom link Monday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m.
