Warm Hearth Village is a non-profit retirement community in Blacksburg. Each year, the Warm Hearth Foundation conducts fundraising activities to provide for residents at the Village who are unable to pay the costs of housing and health care services. In 2007, The Warm Hearth Foundation launched an innovative new auction program where it accepts donations of furniture and appointments and turns those into cash for the Foundation. Warm Hearth teamed up with Wayne Garst and Valley Auction Center to collect donated items, transport them to the auction center, and provide donors with a tax deduction for their contribution. Many residents have found this to be a valuable service as they downsize for their move to the Village.
The auction program recently got a boost in the form of a large estate donation from a local family. Estate items include antique furniture, rugs, appointments, and sterling silver from the estate of Elizabeth D. Michael. Items will be auctioned to the public at 4:00 p.m. on February 29 at the Valley Auction Center in Dublin and proceeds will benefit the Benevolence Endowment at Warm Hearth Village.
