Virginia Tech Environmental Health & Safety Free Hazardous Chemicals Training
Organizations with under 250 employees seeking hazardous chemicals in general industry training can take advantage of free training through a new Virginia Tech Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiative funded by the OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. OSHA's Hazard Communication standard applies to many persons working in general industry and light manufacturing, including persons working where bulk chemicals are used or where household-type products are used at a frequency greater than a normal consumer. Virginia Tech EHS is offering two courses for employers across Montgomery County and the New River Valley: • Train-the Trainer: This course prepares individuals to teach the two-hour Hazardous Chemicals in General Industry Awareness Course to their own audiences and employees. • Worker Course: The Worker Course is designed for individuals who use hazardous chemicals as part of their daily tasks or duties. EHS offers flexible course options both onsite at Virginia Tech and at offsite locations across the region. EHS trainers are also able to travel to organizations and companies and deliver the courses. The current course schedule and registration details can be found at https://www.ehss.vt.edu/training/HCGI.php. The first course is on May 31 in Blacksburg.
