SUMMARY:Art Exhibit: Birds of WoodsEdge & Warm Hearth
DESCRIPTION:Join us for food and drinks at our reception celebrating this exhibit. Sumi-e (??) is a Japanese monochrome ink wash painting style\, meaning "black ink painting\," emphasizing simplicity\, spontaneity\, and capturing the essence of a subject through subtle brushstrokes and gradations of black ink on paper. Originating in China and introduced to Japan by Zen Buddhist monks\, it focuses on expressing spirit and form with minimal strokes\, often depicting nature\, and is deeply connected to mindfulness and Zen philosophy\, going beyond technique to a spiritual practice. WoodsEdge resident Lee Musgrave practices Sumi-e art and finds inspiration in the natural landscapes of the Village and its animal inhabitants. This collection features the birds of WoodsEdge\, giving a nod to the neighborhood's bird-themed street and home names through beautiful watercolor adaptations of the Sumi-e style. Lee has graciously donated these works for display in the Village Center Art Gallery\, and all are available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the Warm Hearth Foundation.
