Jun 4    MC Business 101 Canva Series: Campaign Building & Intermediate Tools
Session Topic: Campaign Building & Intermediate Tools

The Business 101 Series has evolved to meet the practical, day-to-day needs of today’s small businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations. This year’s series will focus on hands-on skill development through a three-part workshop series centered on Canva, a powerful and accessible design and marketing tool used by organizations of all sizes. Thank you to our sponsor, Blouse House Creative, for making this series possible.

Participants will move step-by-step from foundational knowledge to more advanced applications, learning how to confidently use both the free and paid versions of Canva for in-house design and marketing needs. Topics will include basic design principles, asset ownership and organization, multi-design projects, brand guide creation, layout best practices, and common design do’s and don’ts for professional use.

This series is designed to be interactive and project-based, allowing attendees to apply what they learn in real time. Those who attend all three sessions will earn a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their commitment to skill development and their ability to apply these tools effectively within their organization.

Business 101 is ideal for business owners, solopreneurs, marketing staff, nonprofits, and anyone looking to strengthen their visual communication while staying engaged with the Chamber community. Whether attending in person or virtually, participants will leave with practical skills, completed projects, and increased confidence in managing their own marketing materials.

Jun 24    MC Lunch & Learn: Crafting Unforgettable Client Experiences - TBD
This event has been postponed, and the event will be updated to reflect a new date once that has been established. Thank you for your patience.

The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present "Lunch and Learn" - an event series designed to provide a unique opportunity for local business professionals to network, learn and grow. This event will take place during lunchtime at the Chamber office.

In today's competitive business landscape, what truly separates the good from the great? It's not just your website or your product line—it's your culture. A strong, service-driven culture is the engine that powers exceptional customer and client experiences, builds team resilience, and drives sustainable growth. But how do you grow one?

In this transformative presentation, Bruce C. Bryan, author of Turning Tables, goes beyond individual skills to offer a blueprint for developing an organization-wide culture of excellence. Drawing on foundational lessons from the high-stakes world of food service, Bruce reveals how to cultivate an environment where every team member, from the office manager to the general manager, is empowered to act like an owner.

Attendees will learn how to create a "virtuous cycle" where a supportive team dynamic leads to exceptional service, which in turn creates loyal customers and fosters a positive work environment. This presentation provides practical frameworks for leaders to intentionally design a culture that not only survives but thrives, turning your team into your most powerful and consistent competitive advantage.

Aug 13    Business 101 Financial Foundations: Session 1

A strong financial future starts with a clear understanding of where your money is going.

Session 1 of the Financial Foundations series is designed to introduce the core principles of budgeting in a way that is practical, approachable, and immediately useful. Whether you’re managing household finances, running a business, or simply looking to gain better control of your financial picture, this session will provide a structured starting point.

Participants will learn how to track income and expenses, identify spending patterns, and build a budget that reflects real-world priorities. The focus is on creating a system that is both sustainable and adaptable—one that can grow with you over time.

Sep 1    MC Business 101 Financial Foundations: Session 2

Building on the foundation established in Session 1, this advanced session focuses on turning a working budget into a long-term financial tool.

Session 2 of the Financial Foundations series explores how to refine, manage, and plan with your budget to support future goals. Participants will take a deeper look at forecasting, adjusting for changing circumstances, and making informed financial decisions with confidence.

This session emphasizes forward-thinking strategies, helping attendees move beyond tracking and into proactive planning. Whether preparing for growth, navigating uncertainty, or setting long-term financial goals, participants will leave with a clearer path forward.

Leading the training is Dr. Kim Eagle, Town Manager of Christiansburg, bringing real-world experience in managing budgets that balance priorities, accountability, and long-term strategy. Expect clear guidance, relatable examples, and insights you can actually use the next day—not just theory that sounds good on paper.

Attendance at Session I is required to participate in this session, as concepts introduced in the first session will be directly applied and expanded upon. Seats are limited. Join us and start making your budget work for you instead of the other way around.

Nov 10    MC Lunch & Learn: Innovation & Future Readiness - November 2026
We look forward to everyone attending this Lunch & Learn on November 10th, 2026. The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present "Lunch and Learn" - an event series designed to provide a unique opportunity for local business professionals to network, learn and grow. This event will take place during lunchtime.

Our presentation for this session will be AI and Continuous Improvement at Virginia 811, or: How we can Learn to Stop Worrying and Love AI!
Technological breakthroughs often spark panic.  Emerging technologies force us to confront, at times, change that is not only uncomfortable, but frightening!  This “Tech Panic Cycle” can lead businesses into a cocoon of temporary security, as emerging technology is avoided, only to place the business in a disadvantageous position in the market as its desire for comfort leads to simply delaying the inevitable.  Virginia 811 embraces change as change is the natural byproduct of continuous improvement.  Being tied to damage prevention and truly playing a role in ensuring Virginians maintain the level of civilization they expect, through the protection of life, property, and essential services, continuous improvement is essential - and during an unprecedented era of breakthroughs in digital technologies, Virginia 811 strives to be on the “bleeding edge” to leverage technology to help the company meet its overall mission: the protection of Virginia’s underground utility infrastructure.  Join Virginia 811’s president & CEO, B. Scott Crawford, as he shares how Virginia 811 has leveraged emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Extended Reality, in order to drive continuous improvement.  Crawford will share a process Virginia 811 uses to help its team break the Tech Panic Cycle in order to find a practical manner to embrace, rather than fear, emerging technologies and find the continuous improvement needed to help business move closer to their visions!

B. Scott Crawford serves as President & CEO for Virginia 811.  He has been with the Notification Center since December 2016, serving as Director of Operations and then Vice President prior to moving into his current position in July 2020.  Scott holds a master’s degree in history from Old Dominion University and has an extensive background in education, having taught at the high school and college levels, as well as serving as the social studies coordinator, K-12, for a Virginia school division and as the Director of Education for the Musuem of Western Virginia and then Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia.  Scott has also received national recognition for the development of an interdisciplinary professional development model implemented at a Roanoke credit union and taught a decision making seminar for a business leadership program offered through Virginia Tech at the Roanoke Higher Education Center.  Scott has a strong passion for education and leveraging new and emerging technologies to enhance damage prevention efforts.  Serving on the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Advisory Committee and various damage prevention task-forces has allowed Scott to forge strong relationships with a host of similarly passionate stakeholders.  He feels incredibly fortunate to be a part of a team at Virginia 811 with so many talented individuals committed to damage prevention and protecting Virginia's underground utility infrastructure.
