SOUL FOOD SAMPLING?
3 Soul Food Samplings will be served seating 18 guests per meal. Make your reservation selection for 12 noon, 2pm or 4pm. $20 Tickets also include a Soul Food Sampling Cookbook. In celebration of Black History Month, a "Soul Food Sampling" will be presented by the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation. Join us as we explore, discuss, and taste soul food. What are the traditions that make this cuisine truly original? Where did the term ?soul food? come from and what does it symbolize? What are the special ingredients and preparation methods that characterize soul food? How does soul food differ from other American cuisines? Most importantly, how does soul food taste? In an intimate atmosphere there will be many opportunities to talk about and eat soul food at the historic St. Luke and Odd Fellows Hall in the former Black neighborhood of New Town. In addition to receiving a brief on the history of soul food, guests will engage in conversation with residents of the former New Town Neighborhood who will discuss their memories of how the foods were procured, prepared, and consumed as they grew up. Presented by the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation, the Odd Fellows Committee, the Virginia Tech Foundation, the North End Merchants, Downtown Blacksburg Inc., Champs Downtown Sportsbar & Cafe, and Blue Ridge Mountain Catering & Wikitera Cafe.
